Giva Salutes: WaterAid UK

Here at Giva, we search for organisations that work to make the world a better place, and we are pleased to salute them here!

WaterAid is an international organisation that works to better the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised people throughout the world by providing them with access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Millions of people throughout the world struggle with not having access to clean drinking water, proper sanitation systems and good hygiene practises. These public health concerns create a number of problems for communities, from water-borne illnesses and other preventable diseases to time wasted by people walking miles a day for water when they could be working or gaining an education.

WaterAid's goal is to provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene to areas in need throughout the world by 2030. The organisation is made possible by the support of hundreds of partners within civil society, government and the private sector.

By providing material goods, such as water taps and toilets, and working with governments across the world, WaterAid is leading the way in providing the world's poorest communities with these most basic needs. The organisation is able to provide short-term support through delivering clean water and other supplies, while also fostering long-term change by working with local and regional governments to educate them on supplying their citizens with affordable, sustainable services.

WaterAid's UK branch is committed to changing the world through its public health initiatives, and it was also named the 6th best not-for-profit for which to work in the UK by the Sunday Times earlier this year. They were also awarded the prestigious Best Companies Three Star "extraordinary" status. The list was based on many aspects, such as leadership and management, personal growth, teamwork, well-being, pay and benefits, and opportunities to give back to the community. In addition, the results showed that 91% of employees feel proud to work for WaterAid and 92% feel the organisation has a strong social conscience.

WaterAid UK is not only changing the world by providing and advocating for safe water, sanitation and hygiene, but also by promoting a positive workplace experience for its staff. Giva salutes WaterAid UK for its commitment to aiding disadvantaged communities throughout the world!
