5 Fun Outdoor Events That Raise Money for UK Charities

Fun UK Charity Fundraising

Many charities work hard to address serious issues, such as education in developing countries and cystic fibrosis research. However, that does not mean that charity fundraising, advocacy, and events cannot be serious fun! We have compiled a list of five fun outdoors events that help support various UK charities. Here they are:

HEROES RUN is a fun run in Brighton that raises money for the UK charity Pass It On Africa. This not for profit organisation builds schools and supports educational projects in impoverished areas throughout Africa. They currently have projects in Kenya, Ghana, The Gambia, and Uganda. At HEROES RUN, participants have the choice between running as a Hero or a Villain, and they are encouraged to dress up in costumes. The 2015 event raised £18,711.00 for the charity. If you would like to run in this year's event, you can register online here. DATE: Sunday 15 May 2016

Railway Children Walk and Fun Day

This is an excellent activity for book lovers of all ages. The Railway Children Walk and Fun Day is an annual fundraiser hosted by The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust works to improve the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis by raising money for research and advocating for better services and care for CF patients. Their Railway Children Walk takes place in the Yorkshire countryside, where the classic children's story was set and filmed. After taking a walk, families can enjoy refreshments, fair games, and a bouncy castle. You can register for the event online here. DATE: Saturday 16 July 2016

South Wales Bike Ride

If you are interested in taking a beautiful and potentially challenging bike ride through the Gower Peninsula, this charity event is the one for you. For more than 25 years, the British Heart Foundation has put on the South Wales Bike Ride. The British Heart Foundation funds research to combat heart disease. Their annual bike ride in South Wales is a great way to help out both your own heart and the hearts of others. This year's event will take place in Swansea. DATE: Sunday 17 July 2016

Swim Serpentine

Swim Serpentine is a brand new 1-mile swim challenge in the Serpentine at Hyde Park. The event will benefit Marie Curie, a UK charity that supports people living with terminal illnesses. By providing these individuals with nurses, hospices, helper volunteers, and a support line, Marie Curie helps make life a little easier for people facing major health difficulties. If you would like to participate in the first ever Swim Serpentine challenge, you can register here. DATE: Saturday 24 September 2016

The Sumo Run

Have you ever wanted to run a 5K while wearing an inflatable sumo wrestler suit? If so, this is your opportunity! The Sumo Run takes place each year in the UK to raise funds for Link Community Development, a charity which works to improve the educational opportunities of children in sub-Saharan Africa. Last year's fun runs took place in Edinburgh and London. More than 250 people donned their sumo suits and ran for the charity.
