Which is the best day of the year to volunteer? Every day! However, when it comes to corporate volunteering, Business in the Community's annual Give & Gain Day truly rises to the top.
Created by Business in the Community (BITC) nine years ago, Give & Gain Day aims to showcase "the incredible power of employee volunteering". Each year, companies from all over the world team up with local organisations to bring social change through volunteering. In 2015, more than 30,000 employees participated in the event, including almost 19,000 UK employees. These volunteers restored playgrounds, worked in community gardens and designed art activities for children with special needs, among other things. Although the UN has an International Volunteer Day each year, Give & Gain Day is the only worldwide employee volunteering day.
in addition to enabling individual volunteers to experience the joy of giving back to their communities, Give & Gain Day also benefits businesses. According to BITC's 2015 Impact Report, 72% of surveyed participants felt that the skills they learned while volunteering (e.g. teamwork and communication) would benefit them at work. Almost 90% had a higher opinion of their employers after the event. Give & Gain Day can help improve relationships both among co-workers and between employees and their employers.
Every day is a great day to give back to the community, but if your business is interested in employee volunteering, consider participating in Give & Gain Day 2016.
The event will take place globally on 20 May 2016.
